Eternals: first trailer for Chloé Zhao’s Marvel movie released

Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan and Kit Harington among stars seen in promo for Oscar-winning director’s superhero movie

The first trailer for Eternals, a new Marvel movie directed by Oscar-winning film-maker Chloé Zhao , has been released.

Zhao shot the film back-to-back with Nomadland , her elegiac drama about van-dwellers in America, using the same camera and operating rig. Such continuity has led many superhero-sceptic cinephiles to entertain unusually high hopes for an MCU movie.

The first promotional clip for the film, which is due to be released in November, will provide early cheer for both those hoping for a thoughtful change of tone for the studio, and the Marvel purists eager for a project with due deference to the whizzy biffing that has come before.

Jolie in Eternals.

The film is set in the immediate aftermath of Avengers: Endgame , which left many of the series’ key players dead or otherwise unavailable for world-saving. It revolves around members of an immortal alien race who have secretly lived fairly quiet lives (including as a Bollywood dancer and museum curator) on Earth, but who must now club together and use their assorted superpowers for the sake of humanity.

Angelina Jolie plays Thena, a warrior who can create any weapon out of cosmic energy, while Richard Madden is Ikaris, the Eternals’ leader who can fly, shoot beams of cosmic energy from his eyes and has super strength. The emotional engine of the film appears to be Ikaris’s centuries of sexual tension with Sersi ( Gemma Chan ), who works in Oxford’s Museum of Natural History and has the ability to manipulate matter.

The Eternals

Other gang members include Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, the first deaf superhero in the MCU, and Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, the first openly gay superhero, whom we see with his husband and child. Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek , Barry Keoghan and Kit Harington also feature.

Earlier this month, Marvel boss Kevin Feige came in for ridicule after expressing surprise at Zhao being able to shoot landscape scenes without relying on visual effects. He said he had been amazed Zhao spent time “really fighting for practical locations” and that, while showing Disney executives samples of the footage, he “had to keep saying, ‘This is right out of a camera; there’s no VFX work to this at all!’

“Because it was a beautiful sunset, with perfect waves and mist coming up from the shore on this giant cliffside – really impressive stuff.”

Although he had been among those executives instrumental in hiring Zhao for the film, Feige said it was only after watching Nomadland he quite realised what Zhao had been doing.

Madden and Chan in Eternals.

“Oh! That is not just what she wanted to bring to Marvel; this is a signature style,” Feige said he thought at the time.

The first face seen in the Eternals trailer is that of an unknown middle-aged woman, weathered on a dusty plain – an image that will feel familiar to those acquainted with her previous work.

Artful use of music such as Skeeter Davis’s The End of the World furthers suggestions that Eternals will indeed mark a change of direction for the series, while the jocular payoff to the trailer nods back to the larky self-reverence of canonical Avengers movies.

Zhao became the second woman ever to win the Oscar for best director last month. Nomadland also took the best picture and best actress awards.

‘Eternals’ Trailer: Gemma Chan, Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington Fight to Defend Humanity in Chloé Zhao’s Marvel Film

Eternals final trailer

Marvel Studios released a second and final trailer for Chloé Zhao’s “ Eternals ,” hitting the big screen on Nov. 5.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest space outing follows an immortal alien race, called the Eternals, who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years and possess different powers and abilities, including super strength and the ability to fly.

The film, which has been dubbed by many as “Marvel’s most ambitious film yet,” follows 10 heroes: Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Salma Hayek as Ajak and Angelina Jolie as Thena. Kit Harington plays human Dane Whitman, a.k.a. the Black Knight.

Marvel released a teaser (set to the tune of Skeeter Davis’ “The End of the World”) back in May, but “The Eternals'” final trailer, which dropped in the early hours on Thursday, feels more serious in tone and presents the Eternals grappling with the prospect of emerging after centuries living apart in order to help humans.

Harrington’s human character Dane is seen asking Chan’s Sersi why the Eternals didn’t get involved in the fight against Thanos, a destructive force that annihilated half the population of the universe five years prior. “We were instructed not to interfere in any human conflicts unless Deviants were involved,” Sersi responds. However, the Eternals gradually assemble to fight together as a group.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly , Zhao discussed a scene shot at Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands on a rugged ledge overlooking the sea.

“We had our whole cast standing on that cliff in their costumes, and we played really loud operatic music on the speaker, just blasting that through the wind,” Zhao said. “Seeing my cast coming together in formation as the Eternals, with the beauty of this ancient-looking landscape, and the ocean and the sky… it was pretty awesome.”

Zhao recently became the second woman in history to receive an Academy Award for best director, honored for her best picture-winning film “Nomadland.”

In the EW interview, Nanjiani said of the groundbreaking director: “She’s just one of the greatest filmmakers ever, and she’s at the height of her powers right now. Working with someone like that, you’d think it’d be intimidating, but it was the opposite.”

Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao brings her personal touch to the MCU

After several delays and a year of movie theater shutdowns, Marvel is springing back up to assert as the dominant force in blockbuster entertainment. While July’s Black Widow will carve out a deeper understanding of a known character, this November’s Eternals will introduce an entirely new cosmic force to the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Eternals centers on a group of immortal beings with fantastic powers, who have existed since the dawn of civilization. The Eternals have lived secretly among us for thousands of years, never dying, never aging, and inspiring some of humanity’s greatest myths. They also love to eat dinner together and catch up.

At the beginning of May, Marvel showed off a supercut of all of the future movies it hopes will lure back audiences after the theatrical down moment. That gave us our first peek at Eternals , but the two-minute teaser gives a much clearer idea of what Chloé Zhao is aiming for with her foray into the MCU. Like her Best Picture-winning film Nomadland , the staging has a quality that’s both epic and intimate — it’s not the usual animated backdrops that littered films like Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame .

“I had to keep saying, ‘This is right out of a camera; there’s no VFX work to this at all!’” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Variety earlier this year. “Because it was a beautiful sunset, with perfect waves and mist coming up from the shore on this giant cliffside — really impressive stuff.”

While scant on plot details, the trailer introduces Marvel fans to a host of new characters in their epic settings. There’s Salma Hayek as Ajak, the Eternals’ leader; Lia McHugh as the youthful-seeming Sprite; Richard Madden as Ikaris; Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos; Ma Dong-seok as Gilgamesh; Angelina Jolie as Thena; Gemma Chan as Sersi; Barry Keoghan as Druig; and Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo. The characters’ lives appear to span all space and time. Kit Harington of Game of Thrones also appears as one of the human characters, Dane Whitman, who has gone on to become the hero known as the Black Knight in the comics.

Eternals releases in theaters on Nov. 5. For more on the current MCU schedule, head to our full breakdown of Marvel movie release dates .

ETERNALS

“We’re Eternals . We came here 7,000 years ago to protect humans from the Deviants.” With the final trailer for Chloé Zhao’s Eternals , Marvel Studios unveiled a whole new mythology at the center of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Illuminating the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s past, and forging ahead with its future, Eternals looks almost like the Biblical epics of the 1950s, and unlike anything the MCU has explored thus far.

More than another building block in a sprawling narrative, Eternals is a passion project for Zhao, an opportunity to reckon with the universe and all living creatures place within it. The filmmaker is credited on the script with Patrick Burleigh, along with Matthew “Kaz” Firpo and Ryan Firpo. Those who have followed Zhao’s career will certainly recognize that this has been at the heart of all her films, from the lives of a young girl on an American Indian reservation in Songs My Brothers Taught Me (2015), a rodeo rider in The Rider (2017), and a group of modern American nomads in Nomadland (2020), Zhao has been innately concerned with people finding their purpose, sharing those revelations with others, and what happens when that purpose is stolen from them.

As much as there is a sense of visual awe in the final trailer for Eternals , so much of the intrigue comes from seeing these extraordinary individuals together, getting glimpses at the roles they play in each other’s lives, along with the question of what time and distance does to those relationships. This is Zhao’s wheelhouse. And as a self-proclaimed comic book and genre fan, Zhao displays a sense of control and a distinct voice, which isn’t always the case for those making the leap from independent features to a blockbuster for the world’s biggest franchise. Even with characters shooting beams out of their eyes, and materializing weapons from the air, Eternals is another opportunity for Zhao to center herself within a culture and explore it as meaningfully as possible. If the MCU was founded on humanizing the great American mythology that is comic book lore, then Zhao, so adept at humanizing American mythology of the post-modern Western, couldn’t be a more perfect fit.

While the teaser trailer, released in May, only hinted at a larger conflict and the purpose of the Eternals, this latest trailer spells out who they are and what’s at stake. Unlike so many of the characters who have populated the MCU over the past 13 years, most people don’t even have a passing familiarity with the Eternals, and that’s true for many a Marvel comics fan as well. The trailer succeeds, by taking a page from fantasy and sci-fi epics like The Lords of the Rings , clearly setting the stage and walking newcomers into what might as well be a brave new world. When so much of superhero movie culture, at least online, has become about arguing whether this or that interpretation of a character is correct, or valid, or better than, it’s refreshing to see a new mythology in which most of that baggage is absent. There is, of course, artist Jack Kirby’s work and style to compare it to, but even those differences seem conducive to opening a gateway for a new vision.

While Zhao’s style doesn’t lend itself to the candy-coated colors of Kirby’s artwork, there is great attention given to his composition. Numerous shots in the trailer echo the layout of Kirby’s pages, and while the aesthetic is not the same, there is still that same touch of grandeur, and human emotion found in shared looks that Kirby excelled at. One of the most interesting revelations in the trailer, and an element that, appearance-wise, deviates greatly from Kirby’s depiction, are the Deviants. In the comics, the Deviants are monsters of every shade and design, their only consistency is their lack of consistency. In the film, however, they are largely gray monstrosities. But given how the Eternals are representations of life and the connection to the Earth, perhaps the Deviants are devoid of that connection, and thus largely devoid of color. There’s also the fact that a number of the Deviants are primitive-looking, sharing traits with dinosaurs, except for Kro, the leader of the Deviants, who in the comics has a romantic relationship with Thena (Angelina Jolie). Kro looks more human than his counterparts, and has more color. There is an underlying question of what separates the Eternals from the Deviants in the film, and perhaps, at one time, the two species weren’t so different.

For as much as the final trailer for Eternals unveils, there is much mystery that remains to the story, and these characters’ place in a world now without the Avengers. From the god-like Celestials to demigods fighting monsters, Eternals , minus a few notable references to Thanos and the Blip, could conceivably exist outside of the MCU. It has all the makings of a fantasy epic unrelated to the trials of Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America, much in the same fashion it did when in 1976 Jack Kirby created the characters whose original adventures were largely separate from Marvel’s core titles. Yet because it does exist in the MCU, it has the potential to further push the cinematic universe outside of the realms of superhero storytelling.

Marvel's Eternals Cast

Marvel’s Eternals trailer is here, and with an all-star cast and an Oscar-winning director (in the form of Chloé Zhao) it looks like an ambitious, surprisingly cerebral new addition to Marvel Cinematic Universe lore. It doesn’t reveal much, but what it does is more than enough to make us hopeful for all the cosmic surprises that MCU Phase 4 has in store for us.

Watch the Eternals trailer here if you haven’t already…then we’ll get to talking about who all these cool new characters are!

And here’s the official synopsis, courtesy of Marvel Studios:

Ad – content continues below

“Marvel Studios’ Eternals welcomes an exciting new team of Super Heroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The epic story, spanning thousands of years, features a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants. The outstanding ensemble cast includes Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena. Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman.”

So who are all these cool new characters joining the MCU? We’ve got a breakdown for you here.

Richard Madden as Ikaris and Gemma Chan as Sersi in Marvel's Eternals

Richard Madden as Ikaris

Eternals is going to give us a veritable Game of Thrones reunion with Richard Madden as Ikaris, the most famous member of the Eternals. Of course “most famous” is relative when dealing with Marvel creations this relatively obscure, but hey, it worked for Guardians of the Galaxy , it’ll work here.

It’s not yet clear exactly what everyone’s power sets will be like in this movie, but in the comics, Ikaris had the powers of flight, energy projection, super strength, and limited teleportation. Like most of the characters in this trailer, Ikaris was created by Jack Kirby in 1976.

With him in the above photo is…

Gemma Chan as Sersi in Marvel's Eternals

Gemma Chan as Sersi

Sersi is a powerful sorceress, and the member of the Eternals with perhaps the most love for humanity, and the trailer hints at that by seeing her walking among regular folks in different time periods. We’re also willing to bet that she’s the Eternal most likely to pop up in other MCU movies, as the character has been a card-carrying member of the Avengers in the comics.

Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo in Marvel's Eternals

Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo

Another Jack Kirby creation (albeit one who didn’t make his way into the pages of The Eternals comics until 1977), Kingo has a power set similar to Ikaris. In the comics, he became an action movie star, although based on the brief glimpse we get of him in this trailer, he may have opted to become a Bollywood actor instead. Check out Nanjiani’s badass Marvel-ready physique!

Get the best of Den of Geek delivered right to your inbox!

Lauren Ridloff as Makkari in Marvel's Eternals

Lauren Ridloff as Makkari

Every good super team needs a speedster, and what’s better than a speedster? A nigh-immortal one! Like Quicksilver, Makkari (note the similarity in name to “Mercury”) has been known to be a little bit impatient thanks to the gift of speed. Fans of comics to screen adaptations will recognize Lauren as Connie from The Walking Dead .

Anyone spot any MCU Easter eggs in this reading room? One thing is for sure, that isn’t Dane Whitman’s Black Knight armor…because we saw that in a museum in Spider-Man: Far From Home !

Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos in Marvel's Eternals

Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos

Phastos is a relatively recent addition to Eternals lore, first appearing in 1985 where he was created by Peter Gillis and Sal Buscema. Phastos is an engineer, inventor, and weapons master…all useful skills when you’re practically immortal. Here he seems to be using his innate cosmic abilities to create something wondrous and beautiful.

Fans of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (and really, who ISN’T) will know this isn’t his first trip to the Marvel Universe, having voiced Jefferson Davis in that film.

Salma Hayek as Ajak in Marvel's Eternals

Salma Hayek as Ajak

The voice you hear in the trailer is that of Salma Hayek as Ajak. The original comics lineup of the Eternals was pretty male-heavy, and Ajak was portrayed as a man on the page. One of the key figures of the early Kirby comics, Ajak has been worshipped as a god at various points in history.

Lia McHugh as Sprite in Marvel's Eternals

Lia McHugh as Sprite

Sprite may look young, but they’re as ancient, wise, and wily as the rest of the team. Think of Sprite as the trickster of the team (at least if the comics are anything to go by), and their antics could cause havoc for the Eternals’ place in the MCU.

The dinner table scene in Marvel's Eternals

Don Lee as Gilgamesh

You’ll note the similarities of many of the Eternals’ names to mythological gods and warriors. That’s no accident, as it’s generally accepted that these characters’ adventures were interpreted into folklore and mythology over the centuries. Here, one of the oldest recorded stories in human history now has a place of sorts in the MCU. Here he’s played by Don Lee, and if you haven’t seen Train to Busan yet, you should just go ahead and fix that immediately. Thank us later…it’s one of the best horror movies of the century .

In Eternals comics, Gilgamesh was known as “The Forgotten One” for some time, but it was ultimately Sprite who convinced him to return to the fold. He adopted the name of Gilgamesh “officially” when he joined the Avengers for a time. Perhaps it’s no accident that our best look at him in this trailer comes when the team is having a discussion about who will lead Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the wake of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.

This version of Gilgamesh was created by (wait for it), Jack Kirby, and first appeared in the comics in 1977.

Barry Keoghan as Druig in Marvel's Eternals

Barry Keoghan as Druig

Another Kirby creation, Druig is Ikaris’ cousin. Described as an “aloof loner” in the film’s synopsis, Druig has a checkered past in the comics, and could cause some trouble at some point.

This isn’t Barry’s first brush with a comic book-related project. At one point he was set to star in the long in-development and troubled TV adaptation of Y the Last Man , and also has a role in the upcoming The Batman .

Angelina Jolie as Thena in Marvel's Eternals

Angelina Jolie as Thena

Warrior, scholar, and all-around badass Thena is another potential leader of the Eternals, although in the comics that has brought her into some conflict with Ikaris from time to time.

Kit Harington as the Black Knight and Gemma Chan as Sersi in Marvel's Eternals

Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman

Remember that Game of Thrones reunion we promised? Well, it’s here in the form of Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman . But Marvel fans may recognize the name of Dane Whitman as belonging to the heroic Black Knight (another occasional member of the Avengers…hmmmm…there’s a lot of those in this trailer). We wrote more about the history of Marvel’s Black Knight here .

What else is hiding in this trailer? Well…

Volcano in Marvel's Eternals trailer

Is That a Celestial?

If you look very closely in the fiery part of that volcanic eruption, it seems there’s a giant figure there. Could this be one of the Celestials, one of the giant beings who travel the cosmos conducting experiments on the inhabitants of various planets? And speaking of which…

background skeleton in Marvel's Eternals

What are these two up to?

That sure appears to be a partially formed human body in the background there. Is this a hint that the existence of super powers in the MCU is a result of cosmic intervention by the Celestials?

We’ll find out when Marvel’s Eternals opens on Nov. 5.

Eternals arrives in theaters this week

The official logo for Marvel's Eternals movie

Eternals, the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is almost here. The third movie in the studio's Phase 4 plans arrive exclusively in theaters on November 5 and, while it's currently rated as the worst Marvel movie ever , don't let those reviews put you off from seeing it.

Yes, there's plenty to look forward to. Eternals' plot is told across 7,000 years of human history, it comes packed with an all-star cast, it's directed by an Oscar winner in Chloé Zhao, and it changes how we'll view the MCU for years to come. Not bad for a film that some think is worse than Thor: The Dark World. Or The Incredible Hulk.

Ahead of release, then, you'll want to know more about the Eternals. Who are these new superpowered beings? Why haven't we seen them in the MCU before, especially when Thanos was eradicating half of all life in the universe? And how does Eternals actually tie into Marvel 's multiversal plans?

If you're looking for everything worth knowing about Eternals, we're here to help. Below, you'll find out more about the forthcoming MCU flick, including its release date, trailers, all-star cast, potential plot points, whether it'll be the most inclusive Marvel movie ever and more.

Be aware: there are mild to big spoilers for some other Marvel movies. There are also a couple of hints about certain rumors surrounding Eternals, too. If you'd prefer to go into the movie with little to no knowledge of what it entails, turn back now. If you're happy to proceed, though, let's dive in.

  • When can I watch it? Eternals is scheduled for release on Friday, November 5.
  • How long is it? Eternals is two and a half hours long.
  • Are there any post-credits scenes? Yes. Eternals has a mid-credits scene and post-credits stinger.
  • Will it be available on Disney Plus at launch? No. Eternals will have a 45-day exclusivity window in theaters, so it won't simultaneously arrive on Disney Plus in November.

Marvel's Eternals release date: Friday, November 5

Marvel's Eternals will land in theaters on Friday, November 5, 2021 . The MCU movie has been delayed twice due to the pandemic, but is now set to arrive in cinemas worldwide later this week.

We've also learned that the film won't get a day-and-date release on Disney Plus, either. The Walt Disney Company has confirmed that Eternals will receive a 45-day exclusive theatrical release, so Eternals won't be viewable on Disney Plus until six weeks after it debuts in cinemas.

That means it won't launch on Disney's streaming service until December 17 at the very earliest. Given that Shang-Chi didn't arrive until two months after its theatrical debut, though, Eternals might not land on Disney Plus until early 2022.

Marvel's Eternals trailer: watch the final teaser

Marvel has been ramping up its marketing for Eternals in recent weeks, with plenty of new teasers and character profiles being posted on its social media channels.

The studio has also been busy releasing trailers ahead of Eternals' arrival, with the most recent one giving us a better look at certain parts of the movie. There's footage of the Eternals' various powers in action, a first look at the villainous Deviants, a couple of blink and you'll miss it moments involving the Celestials, and some humorous moments to enjoy, too.

Check out the latest trailer above, and read on to see the movie's first trailer that arrived earlier this year.

Marvel's Eternals' first teaser trailer was released on May 24. Now that we've received a second trailer, though, we have a better idea of how the movie will play out and fit into the wider MCU.

Speaking of where it'll fit on the MCU's main timeline, Eternals producer Nate Moore confirmed that the film happens "right around the same time as Spider-Man: Far From Home, with the world recovering from the attack of Thanos and the return of half the world population." So Eternals' events sounds like they'll play out in unison to those that transpired in Spider-Man's second solo outing.

Marvel's Eternals cast: who is playing who?

Eternals has a stacked cast that might rival any Avengers movie. You can see why by looking at the confirmed cast list below:

  • Gemma Chan as Sersi
  • Richard Madden as Ikaris
  • Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo
  • Lia McHugh as Sprite
  • Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos
  • Lauren Ridloff as Makkari
  • Barry Keoghan as Druig
  • Don Lee as Gilgamesh
  • Kit Harington as Dane Whitman
  • Salma Hayek as Ajak
  • Angelina Jolie as Thena

There are some huge names attached to this movie but, perhaps surprisingly, the likes of Jolie and Madden aren't the main stars.

That role is reserved for Chan (Humans, Raya and the Last Dragon ), who MCU fans will recognize as Minn-Erva from Captain Marvel. As Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told Variety in April: "If there was a lead in this ensemble, it is Sersi, it is Gemma Chan".

Our entertainment reporter Tom Power has seen the film, and we can see why Sersi is being positioned as the film's 'lead'. Everyone gets their moment to shine, though, so Eternals is more ensemble in nature than other 'solo' MCU movies.

As for the superpowers that each Eternal possesses, it's a broad list. As Zhao has previously stated, five of Eternals' 10 members are viewed as fighters, with the rest seen as the group's thinkers.

Sersi can manipulate matter, such as turning water into ice or dry Earth into soil to grow crops in. Meanwhile, Ikaris possesses superhuman flight, strength and the ability to fire energy beams from his eyes. Think Superman, and you'll be on the right track.

Kingo can fire cosmic projectiles from his hands and, unlike most Eternals, he's happiest in the spotlight. As such, he's masquerading as a Bollywood star in the present day. The child-like Sprite is an illusionist, which means she can conjure up images to distract people or turn items into something else of her own choosing.

Makkari is the MCU's version of The Flash, so her chief superpower is superhuman speed. She packs a mean punch when she's at full tilt, too. Phastos is the Eternals' inventor, and is tasked with creating weaponry and other technology that'll aid the group as well as humans.

Druig has mind control capabilities, which enables him to possess and control anyone whose mind is more malleable than his. Gilgamesh can project an exoskeleton of cosmic armor, which serves the strongest of the Eternals well during fights. He's also the toughest character from a physical strength perspective, and one punch can regularly knock out opponents.

Ajak is the group's healer, as well as being the bridge between the Eternals and the Celestials. It sounds, then, that she'll play a vital role in proceedings. Thena can form a weapon of her choice out of cosmic energy, including swords, spears and shields. Like Gilgamesh, she's an expert fighter.

Finally, some Marvel fans will know that Whitman possesses a mystical sword that grants him the powers of the Black Knight – an individual who is resistant to magic, is an expert swordsman and a gifted tactician. Harington, though, has been keen to stress (per Total Film ) that Whitman isn't an Eternal.

Also asked whether his character would crop up in more MCU movies in the future, Harington added: "I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not. I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character."

While Harington was reserved in his answer, Moore told ComicBook.com : "He's not going to be a Black Knight necessarily, but that is something that we get to play with down the road." Expect more Dane Whitman in the MCU in the future, then.

Away from the main cast, Haaz Sleiman (The Visitor) portrays Phastos' husband and Ozer Ercan will play a smuggler. Harish Patel (Run Fatboy Run) also plays a character called Karun, who is Kingo's valet driver and personal assistant in the present day.

Since the second trailer's release, we know who one of the film's main villains will be, too. A deviant called Kro, who comic fans will know about, will make their live-action debut in Eternals.Additionally, when speaking to Collider for sci-fi romance film I'm Your Man, Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Beauty and the Beast) appeared to confirm that he'll be voicing the Deviant's leader in Eternals.

However, having seen the film, we can confirm that Stevens is not portraying Kro. We won't spoil the surprise here, but the former isn't voicing this particular character.

Eternals will also feature Arishem the Judge, one of the most prominent Celestials in the MCU. We won't reveal who voices this character for spoiler reasons, too, but you should recognise them when you see it.

Finally, there have been leaks surrounding a character in one of the film's post-credits scenes. Again, we won't be revealing who this actor is, or the person that they play. So, if you're one of the lucky individuals who hasn't seen the leak, some advice: mute any words relating to Eternals on social media. In fact, it may be best to stay away from social media entirely until you see the movie. That way, you won't have it ruined for you.

Marvel's Eternals: who are the cosmic superheroes?

The Eternals emerged from the mind of Jack Kirby, the individual who co-created legendary characters including Captain America, Fantastic Four, Thor, Hulk, Iron Man and the X-Men. Having made the New Gods for DC, Kirby was clearly taken with the idea of immortal, god-like individuals, so mined a similar premise when he returned to Marvel in the 1970s.

Making their debut in July 1976, the Eternals' comic series was not a commercial success and was cancelled before Kirby’s storylines were resolved. The characters have appeared at various times over the subsequent decades – including a notable crossover with Thor – and had arguably their most successful run when Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr. gave them a seven-issue reboot in 2006.

So who are they? Although they look human, the Eternals are actually immortal humanoids from outer space who have lived on Earth for thousands of years.

Like the X-Men, they all have their own unique abilities but, in a Power Rangers/Voltron-like twist, they can combine to form a powerful entity known as a Uni-Mind. We got a glimpse of this melding of minds in the movie's first trailer, so expect it to be a part of proceedings.

The Eternals generally use their powers for good, and every superhero group needs an antagonistic team to go up against. That position is reserved for the Deviants, a rival race who, unlike the Eternals, are abnormal creatures due to the genetic mutation they possess.

Alright, you've all waited long enough - here's my spoiler-free review of #Eternals: https://t.co/5FjuI7xqv0 November 2, 2021

No two Deviants are the same and, while they have their own superhuman abilities (such as fire breathing, matter manipulation and shapeshifting), they're looked down upon by the Eternals and the two groups' creators in the Celestials. As such, the Deviants have become jealous of their immortal counterparts – so much so that a war has waged between the two factions for millennia.

We've already seen a Deviant appear in the MCU before in the form of Thanos. And, given how he was key to the events that unfolded in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, it's unsurprising that the Eternals have finally decided to show their faces. You'll find out why the Eternals didn't join the fight to stop Thanos as part of the film's plot.

As for who the Celestials are, they're ancient cosmic beings who, in effect, made the Marvel universe. They have the ability to create and destroy life as they seem fit, and are the individuals behind the birth of the Eternals, Deviants and Humans.

Incidentally, we've seen the Celestials make brief cameos in other MCU flicks.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1, we were given two glimpses of this cosmic group. The first is when the Guardians traveled to the city of Knowhere, which was built in the remains of a dead Celestial's skull.

The second, meanwhile, is when the Collector shows the Guardians what the Power Stone actually is. During that sequence, it was Eson the Searcher who used the Power Stone to destroy an unknown planet and its dominant species – something the Celestials are known to regularly do in the comics in a process known as a Host Event.

Later, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it's revealed that Ego, Star-Lord's father, is a Celestial, too. He takes the form of a planet, though, which suggests that not all Celestials are human or android in form.

Marvel's Eternals plot: what do we know about the story?

As the movie’s official synopsis reveals: “Marvel Studios’ The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants”.

Little is known about the movie's plot in public circles, apart from the fact that it'll span 7,000 years of humanity's history (per Entertainment Weekly ). The Eternals arrive on Earth via their spaceship, aka the Domo, and viewers may be wondering how (and why) they end up here in the first place.

That, and much more, is revealed as the film plays out, including showing viewers how the MCU looked before "anyone was born", as Zhao recently told Total Film . So there will be sequences that show the Celestials in greater detail, or how the universe was formed, with Zhao stating that "anything involving the Celestials is going to be at a huge scale level of complication, let’s put it that way.”

We also know that an event called the 'Emergence' will take center stage in the film. As Ajak tells Ikaris in the second trailer, when the Avengers snapped half of the universe back into existence – after Thanos had wiped them out in Infinity War – the sudden surge in cosmic energy kicked the Emergence into life.

It's possible that the Emergence is the MCU's name for the Host Events that we mentioned earlier. Having seen the film now, though, we can confirm that this isn't the case. No spoilers for what it does entail, though.

But we digress. Thanos' universe-spanning genocidal plan was enough to convince the Eternals to come out of hiding, and that the Deviants and Celestials will play their respective parts in how the movie's events play out. Someone has to step up and save the day with the Avengers disbanding, so who better than a bunch of secretive superheroes?

As for how Eternals will impact the MCU, Zhao has revealed (in a separate Total Film article) that, while the movie stands on its own, she does "think we will have a very big effect on the future of the MCU with what happens in this film. Which, you know, as a fan, is really satisfying for me! I geek out."

In a separate Fandango interview, Zhao elaborated further by saying: "I think a big part of it [Eternals] is that audiences will be discovering the origin of the MCU through the mythology of the Celestials. I think by the end of the film, we will have a new understanding of planet Earth’s relationship with the cosmos, and also with her own inhabitants."

Marvel's Eternals is a welcome new chapter for the MCU

Marvel can afford to take a few risks in the wake of Endgame. You can expect Eternals to have a similar balance of comedy and drama as any other MCU picture – something that was certainly on show in the movie's trailers.

Like the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, you might need to see it in action to truly understand why these characters are appealing, but history shows that Feige and company have form at introducing new sides to the MCU.

That extends to greater inclusivity, too. Eternals stars the first openly gay superhero in Henry's Phastos, while Ridloff's Makkari is the first deaf actor to appear in a Marvel movie. Ridloff will be followed by another deaf actress in Alaqua Cox in Marvel's upcoming Hawkeye Disney Plus series , which shows that the studio is diversifying its superhero line up even more than before.

Marvel has drawn criticism in the past for its predominantly white, male superhero line-up, so it's promising to see improved diversity and representation in Marvel's Eternals.

In an interview with Vogue , Jolie revealed that Marvel's "commitment to expand the way we see 'superheroes'" was key to her signing onto the movie, while Hayek told Variety that Marvel's Vice-President of Film Production Victoria Alonso was eager for the studio to represent more people in its movies moving forward. Eternals, then, will be unlike any previous MCU film we've seen before.

Ridloff also told Total Film that she feels that "with more representation and diversity within the MCU, that sense of optimism and ‘can-do’ becomes more strong, more palpable. I hope that people who feel seen also feel empowered to dream bigger."

With its A-list cast, Zhao's vision and the backing of Disney, Marvel Studios could be onto another ensemble movie winner with Marvel's Eternals – regardless of what some critics think.

Watch new trailer for Marvel Studios' 'Eternals'

VIDEO: 1st look at new Avengers campus at Disney California Adventure Park

Marvel Studios has released an action-packed new trailer for Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao's "Eternals."

Apart from eye-popping visuals, the trailer details the movie's plot, and answers a question those who don't read comic books may have been wondering: "Who are the Eternals?"

The trailer explains that the super-powerful figures were created 7,000 years ago by god-like characters known as The Celestials.

If you've just seen the Marvel movies, Kurt Russell played the Celestial Ego in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," and another -- seen in the new trailer -- Eson the Searcher, was shown laying waste to a planet in the first "Guardians" film.

The new footage clarifies the Eternals were created to protect Earth from an alien menace known as The Deviants.

"Why didn't you guys help fight Thanos...or all the other terrible things throughout history?" Kit Harington's hero Black Knight sarcastically asks Gemma Chan's Eternal Sersei. "We were instructed not to interfere...unless Deviants were involved," she responds.

Salma Hayek's Ajak explains that the Avengers' victory at the end of "Endgame" -- bringing back all the lives that Thanos had snapped away -- created The Emergence, an awakening of The Deviants, that will destroy the planet unless The Eternals reunite from all over the globe to stop them.

"How long do we have?" Richard Madden's Ikaris asks. "Seven days," Ajak replies.

"We've loved these people since the day we arrived," Angelina Jolie's Thena says in voice-over. "When you love something, you protect it."

"You can't protect any of them," replies the Deviant leader Kro, to a captured Thena.

The footage also shows the other Eternals -- including Barry Keoghan's Druig, Kumail Nanjiani's Kingo, Brian Tyree Henry's Phastos, Ma Dong-seok's Gilgamesh, Lauren Ridloff's Mikari, and Lia McHugh's Sprite -- using their respective powers to combat the threat.

For all its apocalyptic scope, the trailer also injects some humor, ending with a hook featuring some of the reunited heroes sitting around a table.

"I bet you've built the perfect safehouse," Madden's character comments, gesturing to the table. "What's this even made of, vibranium?" He then smashes it in two, mistakenly thinking it's the unbreakable Wakandan metal.

"Fall Collection: IKEA," an exasperated Phastos replies.

Marvel Studios' "The Eternals" opens Nov. 5.

Eternals Trailer Arrives, Meet Marvel's New Superhero Team

The first teaser trailer for Eternals has been released by Marvel Studios ahead of its premiere in theaters in November.

Marvel Studios has released the first teaser trailer for Eternals . Directed by Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao and written by Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo, the superhero movie will see the immortal team reunite after thousands of years in hiding to protect humanity from their evil counterparts known as the Deviants. Eternals is set to be released in theaters in November, but for now, you can catch a peek at what's to come by watching the new teaser below.

Eternals stars a diverse ensemble cast including Angelina Jolie as Thena, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman/Black Knight, Gemma Chan as Sersi, and Barry Keoghan as Druig. Haaz Sleiman, Ozer Ercan, Zain Al Rafeea, Jashaun St. John, and Harish Patel also star.

"The notion of switching up the genders, sexualities and ethnicities of the characters from the comics, was baked in initially - that was part of what [executive producer] Nate Moore was really advocating for in moving Eternals to the top of the list for us to start working on," Marvel boss Kevin Feige previously told Variety, noting the differences in the characters from the original comics. He also suggested that Gemma Chan's Sersi essentially serves as the lead of the ensemble.

"When it came to casting, that also did affect it," he explained. "There were some characters that we change from male to female, there were some characters that we knew how we were altering them from the books. But then also it came down to casting. So for Sersi, for instance - and if there was a lead in this ensemble, it is Sersi, it is Gemma Chan - we looked at and read all sorts of women for that part. And ended up really believing that Gemma was best for it. And thankfully, she's proven that to be the case in the final movie."

Though Chan previously appeared as another character in Captain Marvel , the actress also explained how adamant Feige was about getting her back into the MCU in a new role. In an interview with THR, Chan detailed how she came to pick up another big role in Eternals .

"My character dies in [Captain Marvel], so I thought there was no chance that I would really be coming back, which I was a bit bummed about," Chan said. "But then I encountered Kevin Feige during the awards circuit for Crazy Rich Asians and out of the blue, he just came up and said, 'We'd love to have you back. We'd love to make better use of you. We want you to do something else, so let's find that project.' But, to be honest, I had no idea that it would be so soon."

Created by Jack Kirby, the titular team made their Marvel Comics debut in The Eternals #1 in 1976. They are introduced as a race of immortal superheroes created by extraterrestrials to serve as the protectors of Earth, and end up going to war with their destructive counterparts. They all carry similar superheroes, such as the abilities of flight and superhuman strength, though many also choose to focus on a particular power to become more effective with it than the others.

Eternals will be released in theaters on Nov. 5, 2021. It will be the third of four Phase Four movies releasing this year, following Black Widow in May and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in September. Spider-Man: No Way Home will also premiere in December. The new teaser trailer for Eternals comes to us from Marvel Studios .

Marvel's Eternals: 14 Easter Eggs & Hidden Details From New Trailer

Eternals Angelina Jolie Kit Harington

Marvel Studios is using Phase 4 to usher in a new era in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After multiple promotional leaks , teaser footage within sizzle reels , and some exciting interviews with the cast , fans finally have a full trailer look at  Eternals

Academy Award Winner Chloe Zhao is set to lead this gang of space-god-like protectors in what looks like the most visually unique MCU project to date.

And while this 2-minute look at  Eternals  gives audiences the best look yet at the star-studded roster, there is still plenty of mystery surrounding this film.

That being said, here is a look at everything learned in the official teaser trailer for  Eternals.

THE ETERNALS HAVE ARRIVED

Eternals spaceship

The trailer opens with an ominous and powerful arrival of a grand and majestic spaceship, as the Eternals touch the ground on Earth for seemingly the first time.

A group of very primitive human beings is shown in shock of their arrival, which leads to the assumption that this is one of if not the earliest stages of the human race.

Right away audiences can see that this movie is shot like no other Marvel movie before it. This feels much more like an epic series with breathtaking set pieces, awe-inspiring shots, sporting a much more dramatic tone.

BRIAN TYREE-HENRY BRINGS PHASTOS TO LIFE

Eternals Phastos

As the Eternals prepare to step down on Earth, fans are treated to a first real look at Brian Tyree-Henry's Phastos.

Phastos is shown very briefly outside team shots. The engineer's ability to build is showcased early on, but that is it as far as his Eternal form.

This is also a good look at the visualization of the Eternals' powers. The golden, abstract, almost decorative energy that brings Phastos' creations to life can be seen in different variants across the entire team and their unique power sets.

GEMMA CHAN'S SERSI BRINGS WATER TO EARTH

Eternals Sersi

In one of the first power reveals in the trailer Gemma Chan's Sersi uses her Eternal powers to bring water to this village of humans.

This leads to what seems to be flourishing crops and water resources this group had not seen before.

This is a simple example of how and why the Eternals were revered as gods and saviors to the elders of man.

SALMA HAYEK EXPLAINS THE NEW GODS IN TOWN

Eternals Salma Hayek Ajak

After seeing her in an equestrian outfit in the MCU Phase 4 sizzle reel, Salma Hayek's Ajak gives audiences a brief explanation as to what this group of "gods" has been up to since their arrival.

The spiritual leader of the Eternals explains that she and her team  "have watched, and guided, and helped them progressed, and seen [the human race] accomplish wonders."  The deity-like beings seem to have given them the tools, knowledge, and belief to lay the seeds of what is now known as society.

Ajak goes on to reveal that after the initial kickstart of humanity, the Eternals have never interfered. Meaning that once this team of gods made their impression on man, they sat back and watched their experiment play out.

This leads to the question of just how many major events in history and MCU lore will be shown in this film through time. Fans are led to believe that  Eternals  offers a different perspective on the key moments of life throughout history.

And if the Eternals have seen multiple alien attacks, an android advocate for forceful evolution, and the vanishing of half of all life in the universe unfold... why are they stepping in now?

ANGELINA JOLIE SQUARES OFF AGAINST A FAMILIAR SHIELD

Angelina Jolie Eternals

Angelina Jolie has been the star of the action seen from the under three minutes of footage released thus far.

The warrior goddess Thena is capable of using her Eternals magic to conjure any handheld weapon with finesse and mastery.

Captain America shield Eternals

It could be a coincidence, but the shields being held by these soldiers have a familiar star across the middle .

There is no telling when these scenes take place, but it is hard to imagine these ancient soldiers weren't inspired by the star-spangled man with a plan.

LAUREN RIDLOFF SHOWS OFF HER SKILLS AS MAKKARI

Eternals Makkari

Lauren Ridloff's Makkari is on full display as the MCU's newest speedster.

Not only is she seemingly reading every book ever written at the speed of light, but she is also seen zooming across the screen in multiple shots.

Ridloff is breaking barriers in more ways than one as the first deaf actress in the MCU, playing the first deaf hero in the MCU.

An advantage Makkari has by being deaf is that she is invulnerable to the effects of the sonic boom left when she takes off at full force.

IS THAT BABYLON?

Eternals Babylon

In the early stages of this trailer, they show what could be the city of Babylon.

This is a holistic city that has been the site of Eternals battles and sanctuary in the past.

Another look at Marvel tying in their heroes with ancient human mythology. Like Thor, most of the Eternals and the locations they reign are meant to be the inspiration for the legends of old.

SERSI THROUGH THE YEARS

Eternals Gemma Chan Sersi

It seems apparent that this movie will take audiences on a journey across the history of the MCU through the eyes of the Eternals.

But a very eerie scene depicts the star of the show Gemma Chan as Sersi being shown this time jump in real-time.

Her clothes do not change as the environment, and surely the calendars change around her. This could be a look at the process in which these Eternals are "awoken" from their cover story lives as humans.

Eternals Salma Hayek Ajak

Perhaps the more interesting frame is an embrace with Hayek's Ajak and Tyree-Henry's Phastos as he is overcome with emotion. This could be the first look at the transition these Eternals have to go through which is sure to be an overwhelming experience.

BARRY KEOGHAN'S DRUIG TOPS ALL SUS LISTS

Eternals Barry Keoghan

In Ajak's epic exploration monologue, she leaves fans with one final line:  "We have never interfered... until now."

As this is being said a mischievous look from Barry Keoghan's Druig flashes across the screen. Druig is known for not being on board with the Eternals' involvement with the lives of man.

Eternals village

Druig's Eternal power is a sinister one, as he is capable of controlling the minds of humans. Possibly explaining the hostile nature of the group of humans surrounding the Eternals in this set piece.

There are many shots of Druig alongside the rest of the team in scenes shown from the earlier time periods. The aforementioned "suspect shot" is shown in a place where modern clothing and aesthetic have been heavily featured.

FIRST LOOK AT DEVIANTS

Eternals Deviants

Blink and you will miss it , but there is the first live-action look at the ying to our heroes' yang.

The Deviants, like the Eternals, are sent by the Celestials as a test on the negative sides of man. This quick shot resembles one of the leaders of the group, Kro.

This shot offers a brief look at Kumail Nanjiani's Kingo squaring off against the monstrous foe.

The Deviants are set to play the muscling antagonist for the Eternals. With ties to the Deviants himself, there have been many rumors of a return of the Mad Titan and half Deviant, Thanos.

SERSI AND IKARIS LEADING THE WAY

Icarus and Sersi Eternals

While this trailer leaves much to be desired from a cast-chemistry standpoint, it does sport a heavy-handed look at the main romance of the film.

Chan's Sersi and Richard Madden's Ikaris are featured throughout the entire teaser, giving a great deal of intrigue to their love story.

Sersi is known for her affection toward humans as Ikaris, the tactical leader of the squad, is known for his unrelenting drive of keeping his family safe.

Whether Sersi's compassion for the people of Earth gets in the way of their love is uncertain. But shots of the couple seemingly falling in love throughout time implies that these two are destined to be together.

These shots also draw arguably the most important question this film has yet to answer. It is known that something forces The Eternals to get in the fight, but how are these Eternals "awoken" to their past while they live their normal human lives?

SPRITE AND THE ETERNALS PARTY IN THE AIR

Sprite Eternals

While drinking and partyin on a private jet is nothing new in the MCU (literally being around since day one), seeing it in this trailer gave a rare modern shot for the history-spanning epic.

Sprite is seen doing some form of karaoke in a private jet, with a passed-out Gilgamesh in the background, played by Don Lee.

The "K" monogram on the door suggests that this plane belongs to the Bollywood star by day, Eternal swordsman by night, Kingo.

YOU KNOW NOTHING DANE WHITMAN

Kit Harrington Eternals

Finally, the King Of The North makes his MCU trailer debut. Kit Harington is set to play Dane Whitman (aka Black Knight) in  Eternals.

Whitman's role in this story is wildly unknown.

But fans rejoice to see a CLASSIC look of worry on Kit Harington's face as something approaches a modern-day cast of Eternals.

He is shown in a frame with Chan's Sersi. Surely not a coincidence as there is a rumored love triangle between Sersi and the two former Stark brothers, Whitman and Ikaris.

THE TRAILER POST-CREDIT SCENE

Eternals meal

In what is now a staple of Marvel Studios promotion, following the title card is the  biggest scene of dialogue shown from this project . And it was a shell shock moment for anyone trying to piece this thing together.

We see a few members of the Eternals team gathering for a meal as Sprite (played by Lia McHugh) asks,  "With Iron Man and Captain Rogers gone, who will lead The Avengers."

There is a ton to unpack here and Ikaris offering up his leadership skills is the least of them.

This sets in stone that at least some portion of this movie will take place after the events of  Avengers: Endgame.

It also confirms that the Eternals have a deep-rooted knowledge of not only who the Avengers are, but that there have been some big changes as of late.

This teaser trailer, more than anything, shows audiences that this movie will look and feel different from any Marvel movie that has come before. The plot, story, and character dynamics are still some of the biggest mysteries in the MCU. But this is a prime example of the benefits of being the greatest cinematic franchise in history.

Being able to take risks like this with unknown characters, innovative artists and bold stories is what led to projects like  Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Ragnorak, and WandaVision.

Chloe Zhao is bringing her golden statues to the table for the dramatic take on that concept. Needless to say... interests have been peaked.

For a more detailed breakdown of this teaser trailer and the Eternals roster, please make sure to subscribe to The Direct Podcast . the podcast will be diving into this movie in a big way on May 30th.

Marvel’s Eternals trailer delivers first look at Oscar winner’s superhero saga

Rick Marshall

After earning heaps of praise and awards for Nomadland , filmmaker Chloé Zhao will bring Marvel Studios’ massive, ensemble-driven superhero saga Eternals  to the screen in November. The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie now has its first trailer , and it’s packed with familiar faces and the sort of epic shots Marvel fans have come to expect from the studio’s blockbusters.

Marvel released the first trailer for  Eternals on May 24, more than five months before the film hits theaters. The preview of the highly anticipated movie was accompanied by the ominous tagline: “Throughout the years we have never interfered, until now.”

Currently scheduled to premiere November 5,  Eternals introduces the titular, powerful alien race who have secretly lived among humans for thousands of years, offering an evolutionary nudge here and there as they go about their immortal lives. When faced with a threat from their evil counterparts, however, the Eternals are forced to come out of hiding in order to protect humanity.

Eternals is expected to be the 26th film in the MCU and the third film in Phase Four of Marvel’s interconnected live-action universe, following the release of the long-delayed Black Widow in July and  Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in September. It will be followed by  Spider-Man: No Way Home in December to close out a busy year in which Marvel is pushing out several releases that were initially scheduled to premiere during the pandemic-shortened 2020 calendar.

Written and directed by Zhao (who took home two Academy Awards for 2020’s  Nomadland ), Eternals features one of Marvel’s most star-studded casts so far. Gemma Chan and Richard Madden lead a cast that also includes Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Gil Birmingham, Harish Patel, and Kit Harington. The movie was filmed between July 2019 and February 2020, and is expected to expand the cosmic scope of the MCU by both introducing new alien races and taking a deeper dive into humanity’s previously hidden history with extraterrestrial visitors — both friendly and threatening.

After several pandemic-related delays,  Eternals is now expected to hit theaters around the U.S. on November 5, with no plans for a simultaneous streaming debut at this point.

Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has finally premiered in theaters, starting Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a wild bang. In Scott Lang's third solo film in the MCU, he and his loved ones are sucked into the Quantum Realm, where they are forced to face the time-traveling villain, Kang the Conqueror.

Like many other Marvel movies, Quantumania is filled with references to previous MCU films and the comic book source material. Now that the film has been released to the public, readers can now see the list of all the Easter eggs found throughout Ant-Man and the Wasp's latest subatomic adventure. Scott's memoir

These days, Marvel seems to be shoveling out more films and TV shows than it knows what to do with. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become so saturated with content that it seems to have taken a toll on the overall quality of Phase Four of the MCU. And with complaints coming in from overworked VFX artists who have struggled to bring these projects to life, it seems like the studio could ease up on what it's producing.

This also applies to the cinematic universe Marvel is producing alongside Sony, as it has already lined up multiple projects based on characters even die-hard comic book fans aren't familiar with. It seems like Marvel should stop and reconsider its plans for some of the films and series currently in production, particularly the ones on this list. Agatha: Coven of Chaos

Though Marvel Studios has just about finished Phase Four of its cinematic universe, there are still many powerful supervillains that should be introduced in future projects.

There are plenty of evil scientists, ancient demons, and cosmic conquerors that the studio can bring in to face Earth's Mightiest Heroes. In anticipation of the battles to come, here are the villains that need to be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 10. Dracula

Plus, we get a glimpse of the strongest Eternal.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a singular success story in movie-making history. No franchise in film history has ever created a series of 20+ interconnected movies in which every single one is a box office success. But with every new movie, the MCU faces the possibility of the first failure in this high-wire act. But that doesn't mean the company is playing it safe. In fact, the details about Marvel's upcoming movie Eternals indicate it represents a swing for the fences of such immense proportions, it will be a ~marvel~ to see the company pull it off.

But then again, Marvel turned a franchise with a sweary raccoon and a monologos tree into one of the most popular trilogies in the whole pantheon. Doubters, to the left.

So, what are the Eternals ? Well, they're no weirder than the Guardians gang. This ensemble represents some of the most powerful creatures in the Marvel universe. They are timeless, ageless, immortal, and have seen a lot in their 7,000+ years on Earth. The Celestials created them as the original "Defenders of Earth." Perhaps proving their shared strange DNA, the Celestials previously turned up in the GOTG films. (Ego, Starlord's father, is one. Also, the city of Knowhere exists within the severed head of a deceased Celestial.)

Here's what we know about Eternals so far:

Marvel's Eternals Teaser & Trailer

Although Eternals finished filming way back in February 2020, the coronavirus pandemic shutdown delayed its release by a full year. That means Marvel has been biding its time. On May 3, Marvel released an overview of Phase 4 , highlighting all the films to come from July 2021 onward. That trailer included several shots from the forthcoming Eternals trailer, giving fans their first look at the ensemble team in action.

But Marvel was saving the good stuff for the full Eternals teaser . Released on May 24, the two-minute clip introduces the entire Eternals’ team, all 10 of them, giving a good look at Sersi, Ikaris, Ajak, Thena, and Kingo. It also let fans get a glimpse of the group chemistry as they banter over dinner about stepping up to help the now-leaderless Avengers.

But the final Eternals trailer, released in August 2021, is the one that gives fans the scope of the film and why the MCU is bringing forth these characters now. Apparently, the blip has unleashed an energy that will destroy the world if the Eternals don’t stop it, driving them to finally emerge after laying low for 7,000 years and refusing to get involved.

Marvel's Eternals Cast

Lia McHugh as Sprite, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, and Angelina Jolie as Thena in ...

If the Eternals are timeless and ageless, that meant casting some serious A-list talent. Once you bring aboard one A-list Oscar winner, suddenly you're casting an entire crew of people who either are at that level or have that kind of talent.

Here's a rundown of the star-studded cast and who they play:

  • Gemma Chan ( Crazy Rich Asians ) plays Sersi, an empath who can manipulate matter. Kevin Feige confirmed in an interview with Variety she is the film's lead character .
  • Angelina Jolie ( Girl, Interrupted ) plays Thena, a warrior capable of forming weapons out of cosmic energy.
  • Richard Madden ( Game of Thrones ) plays Ikaris, the flying, cosmic energy projecting fighter with superhuman strength.
  • Kumail Nanjiani ( The Big Sick ) plays Kingo, a fame-obsessed narcissist who can create cosmic energy projectiles.
  • Don Lee ( Train to Busan ) plays Gilgamesh, considered the strongest warrior of Eternals.
  • Salma Hayek ( Frida ) plays Ajak, a healer and the Eternals' spiritual guide.
  • Brian Tyree Henry ( Atlanta ) plays Phastos, an inventor who secretly guides the human race's technological advancements.
  • Lauren Ridloff ( The Walking Dead ) plays Makkari, a sonic boom creating super-speeder.
  • Lia McHugh ( The Lodge ) plays Sprite, the preteen Eternal who creates lifelike visual hallucinations.
  • Barry Keoghan ( Dunkirk ) plays Druig, the group misanthrope who can control minds.

On top of that, Kit Harington ( Game of Thrones ) plays the human swordsman Dane Whitman.

Marvel’s Eternals Diverse Slate of Superheroes

Since the arrival of Black Panther and Captain Marvel to the MCU, the studio has gone all-in in diversifying what was once an endless sea of white heterosexual male heroes. The Phase 4 projects thus far have starred female superheroes like Wanda Maximoff, Natasha Romanoff, and Yelena Belova, Black superheroes like Sam Wilson and Monica Rambeau, or Shang-Chi, the first leading Asian superhero in MCU history.

The Eternals cast will bring even more to the table. Makkari is the first deaf superhero in the MCU canon and played by deaf actress Ridloff. Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) is the first South Asian superhero to enter the canon, and Ajax (Hayak) is the first superhero played by a Mexican-American actor.

But that’s not all. After finally making Loki’s bisexuality canon in his titular series this past summer, the MCU is also committing to showing diverse families. In the “Protect” teaser released just a month before the film arrives in theaters, Marvel also gave fans a glimpse at the first LGBTQ+ family in the studio’s history, as fans get a glimpse of Phastos’ husband and son.

Marvel's Eternals Plot

Official Poster for Marvel's 'Eternals'

Eterntals is directed by Oscar winner Chloe Zhao, so you know it's going to be good. Currently though, the Eternals official synopsis doesn't give much away:

After an unexpected tragedy following the events of Avengers: Endgame , the Eternals — an immortal alien race created by the Celestials who have secretly lived on Earth for over 7,000 years — reunite to protect humanity from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.

So, what are the Deviants? Like the Eternals, they were created by the Celestials, but not purposefully. They were byproducts of the creation process, a mutant offshoot. The Celestials initially let them multiply as food for the Eternals, like sentient cattle.

But the Deviants proved to have superpowers of their own and formed not only society but also religion. (They worship the Dreaming Celestial, which they call "He Who Sleeps in Darkness.") They claim their god gave them dominion over Earth and battled the Eternals for it far in the past. Since losing that war, the Eternals have guarded the planet in peace.

The final trailer adds some context to this synopsis. as Ajak explains, the second snap Tony Starks, the one that returned the human race at the end of Endgame , created an burst of energy so powerful that it has triggered something called “The Emergence.” (One assumes that means the emergence of the Deviants?) Whatever it is, it is going to destroy humanity, unless the Eternals finally break their policy of non-interference in human affairs.

Marvel's Eternals Release Date

Eternals logo

Initially, Eternals was planned as the second film to arrive as part of Phase 4 and the third title overall, following The Falcon & The Winter Soldier . Its original release date was Nov. 6, 2020. The shutdown pushed it back twice, first to March 2021 and then to November.

It will now be the third big-screen release of Phase 4 and the eighth title overall when accounting for Disney+ TV series releases. It will arrive in theaters on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga (Phases 1-3) is currently streaming on Disney+ , minus the Spider-Man and Hulk movies. All of MCU’s Phase 4 is also available to stream.

Kumail Nanjiani Began Counselling to Address Trauma from Marvel's Eternals Backlash

"it was really, really hard.".

Ryan Dinsdale Avatar

Marvel Star Kumail Nanjiani began counselling after Eternals was released to middling reviews from critics.

Speaking on the Inside of You podcast, Nanjiani said Eternals made him realise he was approaching his acting career in the wrong way, by being too focused on other people's response instead of his own experience. Marvel had expected the ensemble film to be a big success, Nanjiani said, so the backlash was "very, very tough" for him and other cast members.

"I realised that the way I was evaluating what I wanted to do and what I didn't want to do was all completely messed up," Nanjiani said. "I was looking at like, 'Okay, if I do this, this movie's going to come out in theatres, it's going to be a big hit, and I'll get more.'

"Then I realised... I did stuff that should've been a home run and then it wasn't, like Eternals. It was an Oscar winning director, one of the craziest casts. You had legends, you had Salma Hayek , you had Angelina Jolie , you had new people who were amazing, Brian Tyree Henry, Barry Keoghan , who have both been nominated for Oscars."

Nanjiani therefore expected the film to be a "slam dunk", especially because he understood the genre and he genuinely enjoyed making it .

"However, when that movie came out and the reviews weren't good, that was very, very tough for me," he said. "I realised that too much of how I'm evaluating what I want to do is based on the result or what other people think of it."

Marvel expected the film to be very well received too, which only added to the pressure of the backlash for Nanjiani.

"It was really, really hard, because Marvel thought that movie was going to be really, really well reviewed," he said. "They lifted the embargo really early, and they also put it in some fancy movie festivals, and they sent us on a big global tour promoting the movie right as the embargo was lifted."

Nanjiani continued: "It was really, really hard and that's when I was like, 'This is unfair to me. It's unfair to [my wife] Emily. I can't approach my work this way anymore, some s**t's gotta change.' So very intentionally I did start counselling.

Marvel's Eternals Images

"I still talk to my therapist about that. Emily says that I do have trauma from it. Emily and I just got dinner with someone else from that movie and we were like, 'Man, that was tough wasn't it.' He's like, 'Yeah that was really tough.'

"I think we all went through something kind of similar, and this guy that I'm talking about is truly one of the best actors of our generations and has been nominated for an Oscar since then. So I realised I can't be so results based in my work anymore cause I can't really control it. I can control my experience. I can control how I am to the people around me. I can control what I learn from it. I can control how I work. I can't control what people are going to think of it."

Eternals arrived in November 2021 in an already struggling Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has continued to dwindle since as its latest release, The Marvels , had the franchise's worst box office performance to date.

In our 7/10 review , IGN said: "Eternals is beautifully shot and terrifically acted, but it bites off more than it can chew in its third act."

‘X-Men '97' Trailer: New Disney+ Series Continues the Classic '90s Cartoon After Death of Prof. X

For the first time in over 10 years, a new animated "X-Men" show has arrived.

The first trailer for Disney+'s "X-Men '97" is here, and it continues the story from the classic '90s cartoon, "X-Men: The Animated Series." It begins streaming on Disney+ on March 20.

The beloved "X-Men: The Animated Series" ran from 1992-1997 for five seasons. "X-Men '97" functions as essentially a sixth season for the show, picking up after the 1997 series finale, "Graduation Day," in which Prof. Charles Xavier dies. The new trailer shows X-Men members Cyclops, Wolverine, Morph, Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Jubilee, Bishop and more pick up the pieces after Prof. X perishes.

"We have to say vigilant, the professor entrusted us with his dream," Cyclops says to his team, as footage shows anti-mutant protests in the streets and a casket containing Prof. X lowered into the ground. The team battles giant Sentinel robots, and the final show reveals that the evil Magneto has taken control of everything Prof. X built by obtaining his last will and testament.

The voice cast includes Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.

"X-Men: The Animated Series" was one of the first major Marvel shows, and it catapulted the X-Men into mainstream popularity. After it ended, "X-Men: Evolution" reimagined the team as teens and ran from 2000-03, followed by the short-lived series "Wolverine and the X-Men" in 2009. Two Japanese anime series aired in 2011, but after that the X-Men disappeared on TV. After Disney acquired Fox, it paved the way for the X-Men to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Along with "Deadpool and Wolverine" hitting theaters this summer, it'll be a huge year for X-Men in the MCU.

Beau DeMayo serves as head writer of "X-Men '97." Episodes are directed by Jake Castorena, Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura. Featuring music by The Newton Brothers, the series is executive produced by Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso and DeMayo.

Why galactus is better as marvel studios’ fantastic four villain instead of doctor doom.

Doctor Doom is one of the best Marvel villains; however, Galactus would be a better choice for Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four film for a few reasons.

  • Galactus may be a better main villain than Doctor Doom for The Fantastic Four's MCU debut in 2025.
  • The movie could be set in the 1960s, as teased by the announcement art for The Fantastic Four's cast.
  • While Galactus poses risks, like repeating world-ending stakes, he could elevate The Fantastic Four as a blockbuster.

Galactus would be a better choice to serve as the main villain of The Fantastic Four instead of Doctor Doom. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has finally started moving forward on its adaptation of Marvel's First Family. While MCU Spider-Man franchise director Jon Watts had previously left The Fantastic Four , with WandaVision 's Matt Shakman taking his place, the movie had seen little progress. After months of rumors, The Fantastic Four 's cast was finally announced this month, consisting of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm .

The Fantastic Four 's casting announcement came with a release date shift, with the MCU movie now premiering on July 25, 2025.

Marvel Studios used custom art to announce the movie's cast, seemingly revealing that The Fantastic Four will be set in the past — most likely the 1960s. While the film's heroes are now confirmed, Marvel still has to reveal who will play the movie's villain — or even which Marvel Comics character will go up against the Fantastic Four. While there has been no official word on the matter, rumors claim that Doctor Doom will only play a small role in the film, with Galactus set as The Fantastic Four 's villain , and that would be great for the film.

MCU image of Marvel's Fantastic Four, with Pedo Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Vanessa Kirby imposing onto the art

Everything We Know About Marvel's Fantastic Four Reboot

Doctor doom has been overused in fantastic four movies, the villain is the marvel team's most iconic foe.

It is understandable that after the reveal of The Fantastic Four 's cast, all eyes turned to who could be playing Doctor Doom in the movie. After all, Victor von Doom is one of Marvel's most famous villains, with the character known just as much for his expansive powers as he is known for his unique intellect. In live-action, Doom's image has been pretty much meshed together with that of the Fantastic Four, which only makes the anticipation for the villain's MCU debut more understandable. Doctor Doom has appeared in all the live-action Fantastic Four movies so far.

In two of those films, he was the main villain, which means it is time for the MCU to stop overusing the character. While Doom should definitely remain connected to the Fantastic Four when they debut in the MCU, it is time for the character to take a backseat, playing a supporting role or just making a cameo in The Fantastic Four while another villain takes center stage. Based on the list of antagonists who have gone up against the Fantastic Four, Galactus emerges as the best possible option to face the team in their MCU debut .

Galactus Needs A Proper Live-Action Adaptation

His only live-action appearance was far from ideal.

Galactus in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Galactus has appeared so far in only one movie: 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer . However, the villain looked completely different from how he does in the comics, appearing as a giant cloud, tornado-like figure instead of the giant humanoid being he should be. Speaking to Comicbook.com in 2023, Tim Story, the director of the 2000s Fantastic Four movies, explained why Galactus ended up not being comic book-accurate in his movie debut. According to Story, " The ones in charge were afraid of what that could be ." The director added, " That's not the interpretation it should have been ."

Following the atrocious, anti-climatic appearance of the Marvel character in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer , Galactus has yet to return in live-action. As the MCU's The Fantastic Four aims to finally do right by the comic book team, it would be fitting for the film to also take into account the fact that Galactus deserves justice in live-action, using the villain for the team's debut movie. A proper depiction of the character is in order, and having Galactus tower over the Fantastic Four like the Celestial Arishem did in Eternals would up the stakes for the film .

Eternals Celestial Galactus

Is Galactus A Celestial? Eternals MCU Link Explained

Galactus could explain where the mcu’s fantastic four have been, the multiverse might be in play for the team's mcu debut.

Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer concept art for Galactus

If The Fantastic Four likely takes place in the past , as was teased by the announcement art for the movie's casting, there are two ways in which that could go. Either the Fantastic Four exist in the main MCU Earth, and something ends up making them time travel to the present, or the characters' story does take place in the past as expected, but in another universe. Explaining the Fantastic Four's absence from the MCU up to this point, similarly to the Eternals — they were around but did not intervene — would not work.

As The Fantastic Four will be one of the Multiverse Saga's biggest releases, it would make sense for Marvel Studios to take the multiverse route to explain where the team has been, which is also something that could be explored when the MCU's X-Men are introduced. To set up Galactus as a major threat for future MCU adventures, the Devourer of Worlds could end up destroying the Fantastic Four's Earth in another universe — in the 1960s — which would result in the team escaping to the main MCU reality and having to settle in both a new universe and the future.

Peggy Carter, Agatha Harkness and the Fantastic Four in the MCU

10 MCU Characters The Fantastic Four Could Meet In The 1960s

Why galactus is a risk for the fantastic four's debut, galactus' mcu debut has a chance of backfiring.

Galactus and the Silver Surfer in space in Marvel Comics

While Galactus as the main antagonist of The Fantastic Four instead of Doctor Doom being used in the role in yet another movie would make the team's MCU debut feel fresh, the move would not come without some risks. As Galactus' only live-action appearance was the less-than-amusing depiction of himself as a cloud in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer , with no lines and only a cameo role, the character will come with some negative baggage. Besides, a comics-accurate Galactus could feel too similar to what happened with Arishem in Eternals to some fans .

Among other possible risks of having Galactus be the main villain of The Fantastic Four are those related to the film's scale and Doctor Doom's role. One of the common MCU complaints in recent years has been that most projects have world-ending stakes , and Galactus would once again repeat that, possibly taking away from the personal Fantastic Four story fans want. As for Doctor Doom, after such a long time, having the character possibly only debut or play a role in Fantastic Four 2 or another movie might seem too long of a wait.

Saving Doom for Avengers: Secret Wars — the movie he should be a part of given his connection to the comic book event — could be a misstep . The finale of Multiverse Saga will have to balance many moving parts, and introducing Doctor Doom and giving him a sizable role would be tough. However, if done correctly, Galactus has the potential to make The Fantastic Four one of the MCU's best blockbusters yet. Doom can serve in a supporting role, but an important one, with Galactus becoming a force to be reckoned with in the MCU beyond The Fantastic Four .

new marvel movie eternals trailer

While there are those who spend Super Bowl Sunday calculating just how long it would take Taylor Swift to fly from Tokyo to Las Vegas , watching whatever toilet hijinks the Charmin Bears get up to in their commercial this year , or...you know, watching the sports, there are also those who are here for cinema. From a first look at the Wicked movies to Deadpool 3 (now officially titled Deadpool & Wolverine ) to Twisters , here are the movie trailers that aired during the big game.

A Quiet Place: Day One

Starring Lupita Nyong'o , Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff , and Djimon Hounsou . Set in New York City on day one of the alien invasion, a woman named Sam (Nyong'o) is on a day trip to the Big Apple with her cat Frodo when all hell breaks loose. Directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig), A Quiet Place: Day One hits theaters June 28.

Despicable Me 4

Starring Steve Carell , Kristen Wiig , Will Ferrell , Sofia Vergara , Chloe Fineman , Stephen Colbert , and Joey King . Gru (Carell) and Lucy (Wiig) have a new addition to the family, Gru Jr. They are forced to go on the run from new adversaries, Maxime Le Mal (Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Vergara).

The Fall Guy

Starring Ryan Gosling , Emily Blunt , Aaron Taylor-Johnson , and Hannah Waddingham . Directed by stuntman-turned-acclaimed-action-movie-filmmaker David Leitch , The Fall Guy follows Colt Seavers (Gosling), a longtime stuntman who's working on a movie made by his ex-girlfriend (Blunt) when he's tasked with finding a missing movie star he routinely doubles for, Tom Ryder (Taylor-Johnson). The Fall Guy opens in theaters May 3.

Kung Fu Panda 4

Starring Jack Black , Viola Davis , Awkwafina, Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, Bryan Cranston, Ian McShane, and Ke Huy Quan. Po, the Dragon Warrior (Black), is tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, which means he has to find and train a new Dragon Warrior before he can assume his new lofty position. Even worse, there’s been a recent sighting of a wicked, powerful sorceress, Chameleon (Davis), a tiny lizard who can shapeshift into any creature, large or small.

Deadpool & Wolverine

Never one for humility, Ryan Reynolds ' Deadpool declares himself to be no less than "Marvel Jesus" in the new trailer for his third outing as the Merc with a Mouth — but his first as an official part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This movie also marks the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine to the big screen, after he supposedly bid farewell to the character with 2017's Logan. Although it had been assumed that the movie would just be called Deapool 3 , this trailer reveals an official title that speaks to the prominence of both costars. Award-winning Succession star Matthew Macfadyen is also along for the ride, playing a TVA bureaucrat who seems to be in charge of incorporating Deadpool into MCU continuity.

Also, talk about guerrilla marketing: Reynolds' wife Blake Lively is right next to Taylor Swift in her box at the Super Bowl.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

"What a wonderful day!" That line, uttered so memorably by the villains of Mad Max: Fury Road , has become the motto of a different post-apocalyptic franchise with the new trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes . The fourth movie in the franchise is the first by director Wes Ball , set many years after Matt Reeves' acclaimed trilogy. "We certainly think there is a  lot  more story to be told," Ball recently told EW.

At long last, one of the most successful Broadway musicals of the 21st century is coming to the big screen. The first trailer for the long-awaited Wicked movie is full of iconic images: The green skin of Elphaba ( Cynthia Erivo ), the pink clothes of Galinda/Glinda ( Ariana Grande ), winged monkeys, the Emerald City...and a young girl named Dorothy, who might play a bigger role than in the musical.

Glen Powell 's big year continues. Fresh off his rom-com Anyone But You and with his new Netflix movie Hit Man on the horizon, the Top Gun: Maverick star is also filling the late Bill Paxton's shoes as the star of the upcoming sequel to the 1996 tornado thriller. True to the plural title, the new trailer for Twisters reveals that these storm chasers will have to deal with two storms at once. Daisy Edgar-Jones  ( Where the Crawdads Sing ,  Normal People ) stars alongside Powell in the new film directed by Lee Isaac Chung ( Minari ).

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Steve Carell, Cailey Fleming, John Krasinski, Fiona Shaw, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Alan Kim, and Liza Colón-Zayas. Fleming stars as a young girl who can see people's imaginary friends and works to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids. The film opens in theaters May 17.

Starring Dev Patel. The anonymous Kid (Patel) ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him. Monkey Man premieres in theaters April 5.

Inside Out 2

Starring Amy Poehler , Phyllis Smith , Lewis Black , Tony Hale , Liza Lapira, and Maya Hawke . The young Riley is now a teenager, so while the emotions think they've been doing a great job, they can't account for growing pains. In comes Anxiety (Hawke) to shake things up.
