By: Author Swati Chalumuri

Posted on Last updated: February 8, 2024

Did you know that if you have the right set of skills, you can bag yourself jobs that pay $40 an hour or more? Yes, it is possible to earn the sum through lucrative jobs. And not all of them require formal education.

Jobs that pay $40 an hour without a degree generally need training, expertise, and experience in your area of work. The salary is manageable and can take care of your bills or even buy a car as long as you invest and save appropriately.

That said, getting paid an hourly wage can make it almost impossible to budget. But once you analyze the hourly amount every month or on a yearly basis, you can easily budget your income.

To help you out, apart from looking at career paths that can lead you to make forty dollars an hour, this post will show you how to convert the rate into daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, and yearly payments.

Jobs That Pay $40 an Hour [Requirements]

jobs that pay $40 an hour

Let’s get real here.

It’s likely that the jobs that pay $40 an hour or more will need you to have a formal education, especially if you’re thinking of healthcare, IT, etc. However, there are many areas of work which need you to have some basic training, only.

Even if you do not have a degree, you are likely to make it big, as long as you know your trade thoroughly.

As you start to gather experience and proof of your high-level performance, you can start earning more and more.

$40 An Hour is How Much Per Year?

For you to better understand what you get from $40 an hour, and arrive at $40 an hour is how much per year, l et’s see how much you earn yearly, monthly, biweekly, and daily with the aid of this calculator.

Assuming you are working for 37.5 hours per week, working for 52 weeks a year. We will multiply your base salary by the hours you are supposed to work and the weeks you work in a year.

In this scenario, the 37.5 hours workweek takes into consideration the standard 30 minutes (unpaid) daily lunch break.

$40 per hour x 37.5 hours per week x 52 weeks = $78,000 per year.

So, $40 an hour equals $78,000 per year.

Now, assuming you take a paid vacation, and you are working for 40 hours per week (no breaks), the annual salary will be approximately $83,200 per year.

$40 per hour x 40 hours x 52 weeks = $83,200 yearly!

What Jobs P ay $40 an Hour?

In this job role, you don’t need any creativity needed for writing, but you just need a good understanding of grammar, punctuation, and syntax. Besides, you also need to have a keen eye for errors.

How much do proofreading jobs pay?

Proofreading experience solely depends on the experience and skills of the proofreader. Accuracy is one such factor that decides your final hourly rate.

This story originally appeared on Filterbuy.

Since March of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused record numbers of Americans to transition to remote work. As COVID cases have surged across the country, recent CDC guidelines suggest that workers should be allowed to work remotely if they can. While many jobs are suitable to a remote work environment, most are not. Using data from the Census Bureau as well as a recent study by University of Chicago researchers, about 31 percent of U.S. workers are employed in remote-friendly jobs, but this varies substantially on a geographic level. Additionally, not everyone who works in an occupation that can be performed remotely is well-positioned to do so. Differences in computer and high-speed internet access, as well as available space in the household, all impact an individual’s preparedness for remote work.

Working from home typically requires both a computer and a high-speed internet connection. According to data from the Census Bureau, nearly a quarter of U.S. households don’t own a computer and close to 30 percent lack broadband internet, such as cable, fiber optic, or DSL. Not surprisingly, owning a computer and having high-speed internet tend to go hand in hand. At the state level, states where more households own computers are also home to more households with high-speed internet. On a regional level, the South is less prepared to work from home — Southern states tend to have lower rates of home computer ownership and fewer households with broadband internet.

In addition to having the necessary hardware and internet access, being able to create a clear boundary between your home life and work life can make all the difference when working from home. Having a suitable home workspace is associated with increased telework satisfaction and self-reported productivity. Workers with a spare bedroom at home will find it easier to create a dedicated workspace than those whose only option is a shared living area, such as the kitchen or dining room table. For example, while the San Francisco metropolitan area is home to a disproportionate number of laptop workers with high-speed internet access, a majority of these workers don’t have extra space for a home office, making full-time remote work more challenging in the Bay Area than in areas with more affordable housing.

To find the metropolitan areas in the U.S. most prepared to work from home, researchers at Filterbuy ranked metro areas according to their composite score. To improve relevance, only metropolitan areas with at least 100,000 people were included in the analysis.

Keep reading to learn which large metros, those with 1 million or more population, are most prepared for residents to work from home.

It’s not the usual blah, blah, blah.
This story originally appeared on Inspection Support Network.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, real estate agents were adopting new technologies as a way to connect with young, tech-savvy homebuyers. However, like so many other economic sectors, the real estate industry has been forced to expand these practices in response to social-distancing measures taken to reduce exposure to the coronavirus.

Now, virtual open houses and watch parties are the norm, and even formerly non-tech-savvy agents are embracing online document software and drone photography to comply with new restrictions.

Even with recent economic disruptions and high levels of unemployment, the real estate industry remains strong. And data from the S&P/Case-Shiller U.S. National Home Price Index reveals that home prices — fueled by strong demand and a limited supply — continue to rise.

To identify the best-paying metropolitan areas for real estate agents, researchers at Inspection Support Network (ISN) analyzed data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis to calculate cost-of-living-adjusted median annual wages. In expensive metros, wages for real estate agents were adjusted down to reflect less purchasing power; whereas, in more affordable locations, wages were adjusted up to reflect greater purchasing power.

ISN also calculated the relative concentration of real estate agents in each location compared with the U.S. average.

The highest-paying cities for real estate agents are dispersed throughout the country and represent a diverse set of cities. Real estate agents looking for high pay can choose between a number of metros in every region of the country.

However, one important caveat is that this analysis draws from data collected prior to the pandemic, and the subsequent changes to the real estate market could have lasting effects on where future buyers are searching for homes.

Following are metros with the highest cost-of-living-adjusted wages for real estate agents.

It’s not the usual blah, blah, blah. How To Find Jobs That Pay $25 an Hour Without a Degree

Undoubtedly, a college degree can open up a lot of doors, but that doesn’t mean there’s no other career path available to you if you don’t have one. The key lies in knowing where to look and how to present yourself.

The following are some steps you can take to land jobs that pay $25 an hour without a degree.

After decades of saving for retirement, the time eventually arrives when you can reap the rewards. 1. Target Your Search

Do you often endlessly scroll through job postings, feeling overwhelmed and uncertain? It’s time to streamline your approach.

Not all lucrative jobs demand a degree; many prioritize skills, experience, and potential.

Identify industries, roles, and companies that value talent over certificates. Use filters on job search platforms like the one here at FlexJobs .

You’ll narrow down opportunities that match your skills, goals, and experience. Pay attention to the roles that have flexible wording.

Postings with phrases such as “bachelor’s degree or [X] years of experience” (as opposed to just “bachelor’s degree”) are great options to pursue. And don’t forget to use advanced search features if you’re eager for a hybrid role.

Rather than looking for “jobs paying $25 an hour near me,” be specific but broaden your search to the city, town, or regional area that you could commute within.

Even if you haven’t filed your 2022 tax return yet because you requested an extension, it’s a good time to review this year’s tax situation, especially if you expect significant changes to your income.

Whether you hire a tax professional to file your taxes or file them on your own, you can review not only income projections but your possible tax bill too.

Following are key moves you can make right now that could lower the taxes you will owe in 2024. If you are able to implement these steps now, you’ll have more time to reap the benefits.

It’s not the usual blah, blah, blah. 2. Showcase Your Experience

Remember, each project, freelance gig, or volunteer role has improved your skill set.

Build a compelling resume that highlights your achievements, impact, and the tangible value you’ve delivered.

Even if the job title differed, consider ways your skills transfer or overlap the desired skills.

Devote time to communicating your experience with quantifiable achievements. Numbers speak volumes.

For instance, “Increased sales by 30% in six months to beat the fiscal target by $15,000” helps the hiring manager understand the scope of your accomplishments.

More Americans are experimenting with freelancing, either as a side hustle or a full-time career.

The number of professionals freelancing in the U.S. hit an all-time high in 2023, increasing to 64 million people, or 38% of the U.S. workforce, from 60 million the year earlier, according to recent research from Upwork.

Businesses are increasingly relying on freelancers to save on headcount and real estate expenses, Yoav Hornung, head of verticals and innovation at Fiverr, tells CNBC Make It .

But the services businesses are hiring independent contractors for are constantly changing, Hornung says. For example: In recent months, Fiverr has seen a marked increase in requests for AI professionals, including video editors and prompt engineers, who can help businesses leverage AI technologies to be more efficient or profitable.

In addition to AI services, here are three of the most in-demand freelance services for 2024, according to Fiverr , including what professionals on the platform are charging for them. All of these gigs can be done from home and pay over $100 per project:

Video editing

Video editors work in post-production, assembling raw footage into finished packages using different software applications. Two kinds of video editing have seen "huge demand" as of late, according to Hornung: AI video editing and social media video editing.

Between January and July 2023, searches for AI video editors increased by more than 625% on Fiverr. These creators leverage AI to customize video backgrounds, generate voiceovers and enhance audio and visual elements, among other services.

Video editing for short-form content is another in-demand skill. "The increasing popularity of 'snackable' content in the form of Reels, Shorts and TikTok has spiked demand for freelancers who can make snappy, engaging content for brands," Hornung says.

Video editors on Fiverr typically charge at least $100 per project.

Social media management and content creation

Social media managers and specialists develop, edit and promote content across different channels for a client or organization to engage with and grow their audience.

The value of a strong online presence for brands and businesses has "never been higher," says Hornung, as more people — especially younger consumers — shop on social media platforms.

One skill that will be "especially valuable" for freelance social media managers to possess in 2024, he adds, is the ability to create content that feels "authentic and genuine" for clients as more consumers demand authenticity and transparency from the brands they support.

Social media managers and specialists charge at least $150 per project.

Mobile app development

Mobile app developers are software engineers who create apps for smartphones, tablets, computers and other devices. These professionals typically work alongside graphic designers and data scientists.

Globally, people recorded nearly 77 billion mobile app downloads during the first half of 2023, up 3% from 2022, according to data.ai , a data analytics tool.

Hornung points out that, on Fiverr, searches for "app development" have seen a consistent increase since the start of 2023. He explains that more brands are adopting mobile-first strategies to meet consumers' growing preference for interacting with businesses through their phones versus computers or in person.

Mobile app developers charge at least $500 per project.

If you're considering a freelance career or side hustle in any of these fields, it's not enough to learn the technical skills you'll need to do the job — what sets the most successful freelancers apart, says Hornung, is their soft skills and endorsements.

"Trust is king," he says. "Investing in soft skills such as communication and organization, and proof of how you've used these skills, can go a long way in establishing trust between freelance professionals and their clientele base."

Clarification: This story has been updated to reflect project-based payments for each freelance role.
